The government has announced additional Omicron support to help businesses most affected by the new variant of Coronavirus.
Businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors in England will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £6.000 per premises. With more than £100 million discretionary funding being made available for local authorities to support other businesses.
The cost of Statutory Sick Pay will also be covered for Covid related absences for small – medium sized employers across the UK.
A further £30 million of funding will be made available through the Culture recovery Fund, thus enabling more cultural organisations to apply for support during the winter.
More information can be found here.
Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme
Employers with less than 250 employees, who have paid SSP to employees for coronavirus related absences, sickness or self isolation could be entitled to support.
Repayments will be made at the relevant standard rate of SSP paid to current or former employees for eligible periods of sickness starting on or after 21st December 2021.
Costs can be reclaimed for up to 2 weeks of SSP per employee who has been absent due to coronavirus. This will be regardless of whether you have previously claimed for the employee under the initial scheme.
Claims will be made retrospectively from mid-January. If you use an agent then they will be able to make the claim on your behalf.
Time to Pay arrangements
If you are facing difficulty making a tax payment to HMRC then sup[port is available for any business impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. This will be through a Time to Pay arrangement which will enable you to pay what you owe through instalments.
HMRC will consider offering businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors in particular the option of a short delay, and payment in instalments, on a case-by-case basis, as part of this.
